OK, Big Al, now you've gone and made me take craig's side in something and that really pisses me off.

You are jumping in half-way in the discussion without the context.

BTW, you seem confused about alzheimers. It has nothing to do with being an idiot OR being retarded.

I know the difference between Alzheimers and mental retardation. My claim is the general opinion of Reagan by the end of his mandate is that he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Only later we learned that this was due to Alzheimer's.

The only point of discussion with CC is if by the end of Reagan's mandate it was clear that his faculties had clearly diminished. I claim this was widely known. Letterman makes fun of a lot of people, but he doesn't make fun of Clinton not knowing that he was the president the day before. He makes fun of Clinton's sexual proclivities.

Why? because there is a germ of truth in that... at least as far as conventional wisdom is concerned. That is the relevance of Letterman's pun. He was making fun of RR's intellect back then because the conventional wisdom at the time already had identified early symptoms of RR deteriorating performance.
