AMSTERDAM, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Global chip sales grew by a slightly less-than-expected three percent to $12.29 billion in September from August, according to figures from an industry group on Friday, while chip makers braced for a sluggish fourth quarter.

Ross said that, given the weak economic climate, he was surprised about a recent rally in the chip index, up some 50 percent during the last few weeks, which suggests investors expect more growth.
