Cisco had a win with their optical line recently that made me think they had made inroads there, do you know anything about that?

true cienna is the leader. cisco just dabbles in optical.
Currently, they have re-orged and increasing their focus.
Cienna is the clear system leader in short/long haul barring
Corvis. Corvis has a true "all optical switch". Cienna is
electro optical in the long haul. In the metro/regional
the ONI system's prodcut is the best in its league. It is
way cheaper than SCMR's product. The most important feature is that it has good provisioning. The newer ONI systems product will drive prices down. If I recall right it should be released by December. Cienna has it own all optical switch development going on which is appx 1 year away. In the short term when spending picks up it will be Cienna leading the way. They have Multiservice switch deals with
wavesmith & epuippe to provide easy migration. This one is a winner long term. SCMR is mince meat. Corvis is in the long haul, but Cienna has regional, metro .... cheers, Immi
