It would have been interesting to watch Gore handle the downturn. I think he would have done a much better job cleaning up corporate scandals, restoring confidence to the markets, in spite of or maybe because of the opposition flack he would have gotten. Adversarial politics at least creates scrutiny, unlike the secrecy surrounding this administraiton. The difference between Bush and the others is that there was high confidence in the competence of the other two, and no confidence in Bush today, with the sole exception of terrorism. Gore would have been pushed to counterattack Al Queada, but there would be screams for following through to get UBL and the other leaders, rather than capitulation to Bush's Iraqi business deal. The other difference is that the GOP wouldn't be afraid to attack a president Gore, which causes debate. Unlike many of the wobbly Democrats who roll over and vote their "conscience" on Iraq, which translated means "whatever gets me the next election, even if there is criminal war profiteering".after all the population is used to being "scared' into voting a certain way....Democrats would love that.. That's obviously been the Bush plan, if you look at each event since 9/11, there's a definite political effect each time. For example, on June 10th there was an expose on 9/11 unanswered questions scheduled at the National Press Club at 10am. By an amazing coincidence, just at that time, Ashcroft announces he has a surprose announcement on the bogus "dirty bomber", even tho' he had been arrested a month earlier, and Ashcroft had to make the announcement a 2am from Moscow in order to make enough news impact to distract from the National Press Club. Watch the next three days for another terrorist "event".
