I'll bet you anything the US has not changed its new rules. It may have given the Canadian government a bone i.e. "We promise to be sensitive (in a very Canadian way)to Canadians crossing the border, whatever that means if you guys stop whining".

So next time Syria born Canadian citizen Muhammad al-Saddam lands in New York on an EgyptAir plane from Cairo, I bet you the US immigration officer will not worry about the visas from Iran, Syria and Jordan in his passport because, well yes, it is a Canadian passport. "Sorry for the inconvenience Sir, please go to line #8, that is the Fast track into our country for all Canadian citizens. Also, should you miss your connection on Air Canada to Montreal we would be glad to give you food and beverage vouchers. Can we throw in a free hotel room for one night at the hotel of your choice in downtown New York?"
