I've heard that said, but I don't believe that the Bush administration is saying it. Dissent and discussion is vital to our democracy. I believe forums such as this one give us all the chance to flesh out our beliefs and pay some attention to them. That ensures that politics are not confined to smoke filled rooms filled with party hacks. I do think that dissent should be responsible, meaning that fabrications and lies have no part in it. The most important thing is that people do their own thinking. Don't believe everything you hear, in other words. Don't do things just because it is popular, or the thing to do. I'm afraid our young people are not being well served in this regard. Particularly the fashion industry leads them around by the nose. Right now the highschool age girls I see have pants that barely cover their cleavage and I'm not talking about their bra size. Boys on the other hand wear pants so baggy that the crotch is even with their knees. Both look ridiculous. They're not doing their own thinking; they're following the crowd. That's dangerous. Especially when voting. One of my biggest "beefs" with the Bush administration is that they have attempted to curb free speech by calling all dissenters, "traitors". In my opinion, the traitors are the ones that go against the COnstitutional rights of Americans and attempt to curb their dissent.
