Unemployment is reportedly above 10% where I live. It is actually much worse than that but if you have not been actively searching for a job you are taken off the list. After an abysmal 2+ years for hiring in the bay area, some companies are starting to add again, starting about last month as best I can tell. Intuit is adding the most (200 jobs many of which are "leads" on hotjobs-take a look), and cisco has about 20 contract lead/mgmt positions now. This really is a turn compared to 6 mos ago, fwiw.
