Yes, you are right. But if we can't deliver E.U. membership for Turkey (and right now, it looks like Europe is in no mood), and if we can't keep the Kurds from taking over the northern oil fields and declaring independence (and there again, I have my doubts... how can we prevent the emergence of a Democratic nation... are we prepared to destroy the Kurds over it?), then Turkey is going to drift away.
