But most Israelis understand that so long as Arafat and militant Palestinians continue to threaten to destroy Israel, and provide sanctuary and support for suicide bombers, there's little incentive to dismantle them.

That could explain why dismantling the settlements may not be a realistic possibility in the near future but how does that reconcile with the Israelis' current obsession of expanding the occupation and colonization of the West Bank at the expense of corrupting the moral fibers of their society? You cannot honestly believe that the occupation of the West Bank is going to provide additional "security" for the state of Israel when the hawks have been harping about the terrorist threats posed with WMDs and deniable plausibility?

And really, who is more dangerous to the stability of the Mideast: the Islamic fundamentalists with their call of jihad or the expansionist Zionists and their claim of Eretz Israel? A zealot is a zealot is a zealot, and American tax dollars are being spent recklessly supporting these nutballs.
