If you decided to start the thread, this might make an interesting topic for discussion. The Seattle Chapter of the Boy Scouts has just expelled a 19 year old Eagle Scout assistant scoult master because he had made clear that he is now an atheist. The majority of parents in his troop support his staying in scouting, but the scouts say they have a right -- and indeed a duty -- to maintain their principles. Raises some interesting issues. I don't think it can be discussed her at the present moment, because as you note the personal acrimony which has resurfaced the past few weeks would interfere with a rational discussion, but it would be an interesting topic, I think, to talk about in a forum where the past history of personal attack was prohibited.
