I will cherish your agreement that " I admit that there was more than one period where the posting was largely substantive, interesting, and non-abusive." I hope it doesn't get you in too much trouble with the hate crowd. I don't think that starting a new thread (been tried before) will successfully keep people from wading into opportunities to deal with unfinished business. I think that depends on how strict Tim is in the first few weeks. He's smart enough to see the sideways stuff. If he slaps out a few one or two day suspensions for violations early on, so people know it won't go, then the thread could indeed get past all that. If he lets some minor infractions slide by, he will quickly lose control and it will be all over. As a referee, when I'm scheduled to do a game where I know there is bad blood before the game starts, you can be sure I will call the penalties very strictly at first. Put the players on notice that I'm in charge, and they're going to play it clean or else. If I have even an inkling of opprtunity, I'll toss one of the assistant coaches early in the game. Amazing how much the coaches will get their players under control when they're in danger of having a player they really need booted. So whether it works or not is, IMO, up to whether Tim takes control at first and relaxes it when people show they're willing to behave, or whether it gets out of hand right away. Like you and X, I find some of it purely entertaining. Better than the movies, and a lot cheaper.unlike you, I do think people can be harmed by what is said to or about them. I agree that they can decide to be harmed by it, and if they decide to be, the harm seem real to them. But I think it is a choice they can make. That may be where we differ.
