Credit Suisse First Boston said it estimated gross bookings in the October quarter will drop 15 percent sequentially to $1.5 billion, and that they expect the company to announce gross bookings in the January quarter are down another 10-15 percent.

"We suspect that Applied would not have implemented additional reductions in force unless it believed that a cyclical recovery was not in sight over at least a two-quarter period," CFSB said.

SG Cowen said: "While several short-term bright spots exist... we caution investors from getting overly exuberant as recent gains are unlikely to be sustained unless the overall order picture improves."
