It is unkind of you to play this self centered game in which there are limited outcomes. Boy, are you ever into blaming the victim today. 1) People can all just move on. For this to happen we all have to move away from this thread. That destroys the life of the thread. Only some people will have to move away. And only if they lack the self-control to move on. Only those who feel the need to keep this situation alive and can't overcome their addiction will have to move away. This thread was, as has often been noted, doing fine when the hate crowd was limiting their hate to other threads. If they would move away from this thread again, it wouldn't be destroyed at all, but would return to exactly what you said it should be, "a place to share, to exchange, to debate, to wrangle, to vent, etc." It became exactly that after Poet and the SMBR crowd departed; it can be that again. Only some people are so insanely jealous of its success then that they can't stand to see it happen again. So don't blame me for that. Blame the perps, not the victim. 2) Everyone drop the issue and never discuss it under any circumstances. Obviously not practical under the current circumstances, Why not? Just takes a wee bit of self control. I'm not the one initiating any of this. I don't think I've initiated a post about the "situation" for months. I do respond, but only when others raise the issue. If they just exerted a modicium of self control, indeed it would go away. So this is entirely practical if people can just act like adults instead of squabbling children who won't let the game go on because somebody they hate might have fun playing the game. So they ruin it for all the others. Yes, you're right, it's very childish. But that's the way some people apparently prefer to behave here. 3) Shun CH and everyone else return to topical discussion. As you noted, tried and failed. Because the fact is, as you yourself have noted, that when I'm not having to respond to all this nonsense I can be an interesting and enjoyable poster, and people enjoy discussing issues with me 4) Everybody in the world atone to CH for what ever he deems necessary. Not necessary, as I've made clear. I ONLY seek atonement from others IF there is to be an atonement demanded of me. I'm quite happy to move on. I would be quite happy to leave this whole situation behind, which is why I think Tim's idea is the ideal solution. Go to a thread where all this is off limits, and we can get back to the kind of discussions we have had and most of us seem to enjoy. I suspect that one or two posters, I'm thinking of E and jla in particular, would be unable to deal with that, but that's their problem. The thread would be healthy and enjoyable and we could all put all this nonsense behind us except if we wanted to come back over here and mudwrestle for a diversion from serious talk. 5) CH be a good guy. No sweat. He is exactly that.
