I'm afraid I don't have a clue why we can't all get along. It seems to be something about the human condition. I feel like I could get along with everybody, but I have been disappointed more often than I would like.

The simple truth is that some people are disconnected from their community and their relationships with others. Who can explain why the beltway sniper did what he did? I think other failures are similar in nature, if not degree. I think it is more than mere competition.

I could put it more accurately and more bluntly, but some people are just plain jerks and others are just plain bad. Others just plain do not care.

I suppose I could be considered to be in the first category by some people, but to give myself credit I have developed many friendships with people I initially didn't like. I was able to do that because I suspended judgment until I knew more about them.

For example, I feel quite sure that you and I could become friends if we knew each other. I developed a good friendship with rich4eagle; he sent me some golf balls for my dog and I sent him a book about Alaska golf courses. I'm afraid he has been disbarred from SI for some reason. I even thought I had a friendship with Ray Duray, but I became convinced that he was just too whacked out to spend time with. I became so alarmed that I put him on ignore. People like Emile Vidrine I will never become friends with because they are consistently at odds with my principles.
