I propose a poll for this election eve.

How many of the elections now underway will wind up being addressed in a court action? I was going to say resolved in court, but that may be too strong. How many of them will result in one part or the other filing suit to try to overturn the election results or force a revote?

My guess is three, though I was tempted to go for five.

Anybody else want to make a guess?

This is far beyond anything I was thinking. Most of these are some of the coexisting issues that CH has with people. I expect that they will remain as existing issues subject to his desire and the desire of others to resolve them.

For example: I do not think jla cares to resolve his issues of name calling or whatever with CH. I don't know if CH wants to address his behavior regarding jla. I definitely don't think it should be included as part of the resolution of our primary issue. Likewise, with many of the other issues. I think some folks are comfortable with continuing to be on-line adversaries.

All I was thinking was a simple "ooops" type statement. Something specific to Poet, like "I am sorry if anything I said or did caused you harm." Chris knows the specifics of the "said and did" stuff, as does Poet. I think it might help to state specifically what he said and did that he is sorry for. However, that could get tricky. He should promise to be more careful in the future and specifically to respect her wishes when she says she has had enough.

I hope that this would be enough to move us all back into a topical discussion mode. I fully expect future or ongoing flare ups between E, JLA, X, LAZ, CH, and the rest of us. I hope, however, that we can end the rehashing of the Poet/CH issue which is IMO the biggest hold up to topical discussions at this point and the one that repeatedly brings the coexisting issues to the fore.

"So which are which? For which is he expected to apologize?"

The point is that it is between the people involved. I could never know when your apology or CH's appology or anyones apology was meaningful or acceptable to the other party. But when people are genuinely sorry...they do know what they are sorry about because they are aware through empathy or anaylsis of something hurtful they have caused.

"He's been called a pervert and a sociopath, among other things. Is he supposed to apologize for that? Those aren't acts. I don't know how one apologizes for them."

As far as I know only one person has asked him for an apology. She knows what is required as does he. I don't know that anyone else needs an apology from CH. I have not heard of it.

An apology shows that one still values another and has respect for them and has some measure of goodwill as well as conscience.

If Christopher asked me for an apology I would consider if he was sincere, if he had been hurt, if I had felt justified in hurting him, if I valued a restoration of goodwill, and myriad other pertinent factors. In the end my decision would involve consequences for other relationships as well as my casual relationship with Christoper as a thread participant. Most importantly it would involve my value system and my sense of fairness and integrity. This is the primal reason we apologise...to heal the fractures of conscience and sensibility...
