I saw a funny cartoon with a guy in a US army tank and a guy in a suit standing in front of the tank holding a small UN banner. The US guy says to the UN guy "get out of the way if you don't want people to think you are irrelevant".

That IS funny.

PS: Whether there's an invasion is entirely up to Saddam, assuming the UN actually ever passes anything at all.

Here's another cartoon - from International Herald Tribune of yesterday or the day before:

Saddam is making faces on one side of the abyss and on the other side there is cowboy Bush on his UN horse saying "Jump!", then "JUMP!", and the horse throws him into the abyss and Saddam is still making silly faces on the other side of the abyss.

<<the outcome is likely to hinge on the central issue of whether or not the resolution is an extension of US policy on regime change or whether it is viewed as a legitimate policy of disarm-or-else. >>

Actually GST, the fact is it is much more specific, and much less philosophical, than you would like us to think.

It will hinge on whether all areas of Iraq should be open to inspection, or whether as France and Russia would like, the Iraqi palaces would be off limits, so Saddam can hide his weapons in those facilities.

Let's hope Russia and France do not prevail. That would indeed be a sad failure of international law.
