Knip,
There aren't many compelling politicians left. The no-name new group of democrat governors may fill a need in the party. The certainty of the Bush nomination and probable reelection stifles the growth of new leaders over there. Who will run with Bush as VP? That guy/gal will be the annointed leader for 2008. Doubt if it will be Cheney. Perhaps Powell. Is there another possibility in your opinion?
Republican better not sell out to corp and govt reform or they will pay a price. The Republicans are lucky here for the economy is now turning and if they do nothing to kill it, they will be able to take full credit for the recovery. Mike

RE: "...except for environmental issues..."

I see a big difference in the following issues: (I probably could come up with more.)

1. A woman's right to choose.

2. Gay rights.

3. Prayer in schools.

4. Patients rights.

5. Consumer protection.

6. Handicap access.

7. Work place safety.

8. Anti-trust enforcement.

9. Federal oversight and enforcement of business regulations.
