Followed that link and found an article on Massachusetts Ballot Initiative 1 which would have eliminated the State income tax. Wondered how it had fared, i.e. how badly it had gone down to defeat, and found this from Reuters:

In Massachusetts, voters appeared in a generous mood and rejected a ballot proposal
that would have eliminated the state's income tax by a 54 percent to 46 percent margin.

Wow. That's a lot closer than I would have expected. That should really scare some politicians. I hope they bring it up again, with a stronger campaign.

And I just wish we had ballot initiatives on the federal level.
