The lanes are not reversed. The same lanes go in the same direction 24/7. The only difference is which direction is considered HOV.

You forget the reversible lanes on I-5.

For those who don't know, on I-5 (the main drag through Seattle) there is a set of lanes from downtown Seattle to Northgate about five miles north which are used for southbound traffic (going into the city) during the mornings, then are closed and reversed and used for northbound (out of downtown, duh) traffic in the afternoon and evening.

Just closed off by signs and wooden barriers like the ones you used to see at railway crossings..

Work fine.
