I grew up on the southwest side of Chicago and now live in Darien, which is about ten miles out of Chicago. I spend a fair amount of my work time in the city.

I was actually hoping that Vallas would have won the Democratic nomination. He was smart, appeared to be ethical and he was an outsider who would have given Daley some major headaches. Daley's power was diminished yesterday. He was always pretty cozy with the Republican governors and he will not have much control over either Ron or Lisa. Thank God Fitzgerald got some hard ass U.S. Attorneys appointed. As you well know, jailing politicians is one of our more enjoyable sports in Illinois.

George Ryan was running for sainthood, or maybe he was just trying to do some penance for his numerous sins.

The thread looks interesting. I have already bookmarked it and I will be hanging around. Nice to find someone on SI interested in Illinois politics.
