i imagine brits who lived through the post-colonial adjustments would find quite a bit to relate to in your post. i don't know that britain went through an actual depression after losing India etc, but there certainly was a long long period of stagnation, much of which was spent denying the new realities. which, naturally, merely delayed the inevitable.

it wouldn't surprise me to see that replayed on this side of the atlantic.

now that's interesting: OI on qqq nov 24 calls has dropped by nearly 1/4 in just the past couple of days...

Nov 3 139441
Nov 4 120772
Nov 5 104079

i took at look at 23s and 25s to see if there was an overall pattern, but it appears to be just the 24s....

The bottom line is that the U.S. standard of living will be in an inexorable decline for the next 10-15 years at least. Savings WILL be rewarded, because capital destruction will continue at a frenzied pace in the capital markets, at just the time the "powers that be" have conspired to push bagholders back into the market(s). An ugly, ugly scenario, to be sure.

A good roadmap for this is Gerald Loeb's superb depression-era investment opus, The Battle For Investment Survival. That's precisely the mode we are in now.<NG>

misheldo, you must put a positive spin on matters, noting <<deflation>> means everything that is nice to have will become ever cheaper. Use your imagination.

We must get clear away from the communist/socialist concept that everyone should get rich together, and fully embrace a new old age where only the deserving few will call the shots;0)

Deflation, embrace the opportunity, cherish the chance, savor the gusto.
