I consider Dole a moderate, not a conservative.

I would classify her as a moderate conservative. She was one of the few candidates out there that consistently talked about privatizing a portion of social security. That takes some guts. She might have had a hard time winning that seat if she were more conservative. I think that I heard someone comment Tuesday night that Helms never polled more than 53%.
