It takes more imagination to construct a successful version of the USSR that can keep its people in ignorance and still support military aggression for more decades, imo

"Capitalism uber alles" might be a facetious version of what I'm referring to.

When you start getting sufficient lateral information flow through a political system, which is what capitalism does, it increases public participation and public common sense, which is the opposite of a nuclear-armed dictatorship.
Neither poor nor rich capitalists want to risk destruction of their handiwork, as opposed to brainwashed victims of a dictatorship with total media control.

Market capitalism increases participation towards democracy. Capitalist citizens are less easily persuaded of the merit of warfare for other than self-defense.

The American culture is a more powerful solvent than the military, and with less backlash.
Even the Taliban can't hold people back for long, they'll eventually get ideas, and technology, whether it takes months or decades.

With our state of military readiness we should worry less about foreign adversaries and more about the all-powerful and increasingly secret national government emerging right here at home.
