If our government was socialist then they would be responsible. It's the entreprenuers that run businesses, large and small, that are responsible for the economy in a capitalist society. Of course, knowing your leanings, you probably will continue to repeat the democratic mantra.

Yeah, that's what the press is saying. However, there is a problem. They own the senate by only 1 vote. The Democrats can still be effectively obstructionist by engaging in filibusters that result in gridlock. To overcome a filibuster you need a 2/3 majority vote, which means the Republicans really don't have enough majority to overcome the obstructionist tendencies of the Democrats.

What the Republicans have going for them now is that Daschle is no longer the minority leader. Maybe the next Democratic leader will be more willing to work on compromises rather than just blocking anything the Republicans come up with. But we'll see. Bottom line, though, Republicans don't have as much power as was presented in the press.
