Very interesting. This is all new to me. I didn't realize there was this natural "reverse" flow from PLD to ASIC as products mature.

Isn't it true that in a modern economy, more CE products have shorter and shorter product lives. They are cheap and disposable. It's assumed they will be obselete in a year and the industry is built on the assumption that they will upsell you to a faster product at the same price next year. If there is validity to such a trend, how might it affect the demand for PLDs v ASICs? Do you have empirical data to support your thesis that PLDs are the future?

In current punk economy with weak IT spending and companies struggling to cut costs, might we not see more companies follow CSCO's example and switch from PLDs to ASICs?
