If we had a national referendum process The government through the phony two-party system is excellent at controlling the media debate ("which would you prefer: paying all your worldly possessions for defense, or healthcare?") rather than allowing full daylight into the process and outcomes of the trillions being extracted to insiders' pockets. If the well-oiled machinery of all-powerful government continues the closest we will get will be civil disobedience, torchlight parades, tax strikes. (Ashcroft's holding camps are at the ready ...)
