You're right that Congress has rolled over and will grant whatever the administration, or any group of 100 lobbyists, request. That there is historical precedent isn't sufficient to persuade those like myself who think government has been becoming a dangerous bloated parasite for many decades. It's irksome comparing a real war like WWII to the current constructed situation. Posters from WWII show slogans like "if you ride alone you ride with Hitler!", meaning you save gas and oil for the war effort. Our current oil-based administration has enough control to be completely dishonest about aims, avoid any reduction in foreign oil use, just as one example. Instead of a declared war we have a kleptocratic declaration:"we'll create or claim threats wherever necessary for maximum wealth for insiders".
