I bet many of Mr. Bush's opponents thought the same. After turning the election in his favor, today, Mr. Bush appeared as the humble victor. He's just a good ole guy. I can appreciate someone who knows their strengths and weaknesses and uses both to his advantage. Of course, he does have a strong team of political advisors. They all work well together and they proved reality is secondary to perception. After seeing this election, the key to success is unabated slander. To hell with issues. Slander the opponent. There is nothing wrong with a few well-placed cheap shots and negative comments. However, the first thing the democrats need to decide is who they are and who do they represent. Once they do that, they need to focus on their key issues. Finally, they need to identify new leaders that can state their case. It is time for the old guard to step aside and work to identify and showcase the new leaders. After that, they need to develop a report card for Mr. Bush. For what can he be held accountable? For example, one is the economy. Another is the government's finances. Others include success at capturing the leaders of Al Quaeda, his follow-through on his stated overthrow of Saddam Hussein, and his success at building a government in Afghanistan. Watch Mr. Bush. He has a temper. If the democrats focus on any of Mr. Bush's failures and force him to the defensive, a negative side of Mr. Bush's personality may appear. If the democrats can get Mr. Bush out of character in public, it may pay significant benefits. However, I consider this a long shot. He is too well-managed and he manages himself well.
