I think the American people are getting just what they want. Fairly cheap oil.

The truth is that the cost is too high, and we are lied to about the costs.

Military protection of M.E. oil brings the price to $50/bbl. But that's minor compared to what is politely termed "blowback" from these military adventures. Actually, following the Ollie North template, there are hundreds of plans for creating and controlling such blowback.

You and I started this discussion on the necessity for military adventures. The claims by DOD-industry are that all things it does are necessary for the survival of the American Way (that is the claim for all bloated government departments grasping for your wallet).

These claims bear extremely close and skeptical examination on every facet. The lies and unaccountability are absolutely incredible.

For example, $2 trillion turned up missing, casually mentioned by Rumsfeld earlier this year as "unaccountable". Gee, maybe there's a leetle problem when neither the media nor our representatives make a 5-alarm investigation. Instead they swallow whole the entire litany of excuses, "gee, it's too big, we can't, no time for that now, never was much accounting anyway, all governments are like that", blah blah blah. Anderson and Enron were nothing compared to these criminally incompetent handling our lives and money.

And most of us let them do it without a squeak.
