And of course, GWB WAS elected, and is accountable to the US electorate, not to the members of the UN or the EU either, none of whom were elected by or are accountable to anybody...

Well, I would say that I give more credibility to appointed UN representatives from DEMOCRATIC nations than I do from non-democratic nations (especially Syria being on the UNSC)...

But that said, I still hold that the US is willing to settle for disarmament of Iraq, and implementation of a regidly enforced inspection process. But the only way we were going to obtain such a result from the UNSC was to threaten to take matters into our own hands.. It's the old "Cowboy diplomacy" that worked so well for Reagan..

We set a deadly serious tone and the rest of the world, who wouldn't listen to us when we were "playing nice" is forced to try and be more reasonable..
