Isn't Inflation supposed to define increase in price for SAME PRODUCT?

Otherwise you might as well make a statement like : "inflation for transportation products have been very high for the past 100 years because in 1902, you could have bought a "car" called HORSE for about $5 and now it costs $20,000 for a "car".

Now is this a true statement? Both horse and car was a personal transportation product but would you actually compare the prices between a horse and a car between two periods to come up with an inflationary calculation for a product category called "personal transportation product"? Of course not!

In the same vein, a car built in 1950 is probably as different as a 1902 Horse is to a 1950 car!
