Is the definition of "reasonable" in this context "bowing to the US"? :)

Anyway you want to interpret it....

However, suffice it to say that the US has created a system in which a wide variety of nations who converted from their previously totalitarian and authoritarian systems to democratic ones have enjoyed significant prosperity...

The US has gone to extensive efforts to extend the franchise to various governments throughout the world through the UN. Even those nations which, by all definitions of the word, really don't deserve to be treated equally with democratic nations.

It isn't so much "bowing to the US", but rather playing by the same rules that other democratic nations are adhering to...

The way I look at it, the US is the first amonst equals.. Again, we are the referee, as well as a participant, in the global economic system. It benefits us for other nations to be successful and conduct even and fair trade with us. It does NOT benefit us to have non-democratic nations attempting to "rock the boat" or leach off the rest of the participants, creating turmoil for everyone..

So yeah.. if paying attention to the "referee" is "bowing to the US"... you betcha... That is, until they come up with a better economic model and can implement it.

>>Is the definition of "reasonable" in this context "bowing to the US"?<<

For some reason, I am reminded of the fact that when I was in high school studying world history and world geography, we were taught that Kemal Ataturk was a great hero, someone worthy of admiration.

In the same situation, I wonder what he would have done?

My understanding of him is that he loved democracy, liberty, and justice.

I believe that the people of the earth hunger for democracy, liberty, and justice.

Don't you?
