<with Vodafone Live coming to NZ next year, I've been meaning to ask if you are a user of NZ Telecom's 1xRTT 'JetStream' service, and if so could you comment on it?>

No, I don't have it and I can't comment on how well it's working or being accepted. Their prices are extorquerationate and the equipment offered inadequate and highly expensive. Battery life on my notebook is useless [needs methanol power].

The advertising is very heavy. So, I presume they are selling some. Most of the advertising is of the type, 'take a photo with a camera on the phone' and 'notebook by the pool in competitive business situation'.

US$3 per megabyte is a bit steep. US$600 for a PCMCIA card is a bit steep.

RoamAD at 15c per megabyte and with 802.11b built in will be much more competitive. Subject 53383

I wouldn't be surprised if Vodafone NZ is the GSM1x dark horse. They've got to do something to hold off Telecom. Building out 2GHz for 3G seems like a bad idea - huge capital cost compared with Vodafone's new 890MHz spectrum.

Actually, I should check to see whether they took the 4 MHz around 850MHz to pair with it or the 950MHz, which will give a guide to whether they want to use it for GSM expansion or cdma2000. It should be somewhere here: med.govt.nz
