I guess the problem is that to slosh the money from one account to another you would have to know in advance which way the paired trade was going to go. Otherwise, you might end up with the opposite of what you wanted. And if you knew which way the paired trade was going to go why bother taking the otherside of the trade in the first place?

Of course buying SPYs in the IRA and RYURX in the regular is a pretty sure bet that eventually that money will end up in the regular. <g/ng>

Going from regular to IRA would have very bad tax consequences. You could get a tax deduction for the loss but your already taxed money would have to be taxed again before you could spend it...*yuck*. Going the other way, you can avoid the 10% penalty for early withdrawal.
