John Kaiser writes in a Nov. 6 Bottom-Fish Tracker that Mountain Province Diamonds' carat recoveries for the Hearne pipe 2002 bulk sample were 1,174 carats from 665.5 tonnes for a recovered grade of 1.76 carats per tonne. Mr. Kaiser recommended the stock in December, 2001, at 62 cents; earlier buy tips were December, 1999, at $1.75 and February, 1997, at $4.31. Mr. Kaiser is upbeat. Over all, the 2002 Hearne sample yielded 207 diamonds greater than 0.5 carat, compared with 231 diamonds from the combined 1999-2001 parcel. This represents a 29-per-cent proportional improvement in the 0.5-carat-plus category, an important development for the theory that the Kennady Lake pipes contain a subpopulation of high-quality diamonds with open-ended size potential. "Based on what we know about the Kennady Lake pipes, we couldn't ask for better news," Mr. Kaiser says. The news will mark a turning point in investor attitudes toward Mountain Province and Kennady Lake. The stock will likely undergo serious accumulation by big-picture investors between now and January. The six-month target is $2 to $3, higher if there is evidence of "superdiamonds."
