How compassionate you are. Is there such a thing as Catastrophic insurance available? If not there should be. The government has destroyed our medical system. Third party payments have made treatment for the ordinary individual out of the question unless he has some sort of medical insurance. As far as I can see the only solution will be medical saving accounts.

I was responding to the lack of compassion shown by Joe. In his argument he suggested that medical aid be minimalized to insure that no one takes advantage of the gov't and overbuys their medications. The theory being.......make the sick somewhat miserable so they won't be so demanding. For the hypochondriacs among us, that may be a reasonable policy but for the truly sick, that's cruel and unnecessary punishment.

As for your complaint that gov't has destroyed our medical system, I am not sure that's true. Certainly, Medicare has made it difficult for MDs treating the elderly to get paid. However, its my understanding that medical litigation has increased dramatically in the last 3 decades, and is one of the major culprits for the medical systems current problems. I understand the rising cost of medical and litigation insurance has made the running of hospitals, nursing homes and doctors offices very expensive.

Dave,

Third party payments have made treatment for the ordinary individual out of the question unless he has some sort of medical insurance. As far as I can see the only solution will be medical saving accounts.

Good point. And hopefully, since money in the medical savings accounts would be yours, it would be up to you to decide how to spend it. You can shop around, or you can avoid alltogether the conventional medical orthodoxy and seek alternative treatment, if needed.

Combined with catastrophic insurance, this would be a way to go.

Joe
