I'm an old liberal democrat, but voted for GWB. Guess that makes me an independent, one of those swing votes.

I think what's happened is the democratic party has moved left and in doing so lost people like me.

Really upset with their obstructionism after 9/11. No Home Security Dept. because they wanted it unionized? Terrible schools are another example.

They've got the wrong special interest groups for the changed circumstances.

Until the party moves back to the center they are in trouble. And making Pelosi the new minority leader ain't going to help.

However the Republicans haven't exactly shown the political smarts to take advantage of national mood changes, eg. Gingrich.

Right now I'll support Bush and keep my fingers crossed.

Still

I am surprised that an astute guy like you voted for Clinton over Senior Bush in 1992. I was wondering at that time that how could so many weird people could vote for a philanderer from Arkansas (Gennifer flowers was public by that time already) over a decent man like Bush who had done so much for the country. Now I know...

GZ focusing on the '90s..not on the '80s and the '70s and the '60s and the '50s..very convenient.

Such problems did not develop only in the '90s so look further back. If you care to. (usually folks want immediate answers from the immediate past, look readily for someone to blame, and do not like to question, lest their beliefs that they have worked so hard to nest comfortably in, get all shaken up)

Problem with all is hindsight is 20/20. All about the future. Which we can not see.
