Get this! The Arab League vouted through Syria on the Security Council!

Arab officials said today that several Arab League member states agreed with Syria's decision to vote in support of the resolution. Syria is the only Arab nation that holds one of the Security Council's rotating seats.

A senior Syrian government spokeswoman, Bouthaina Shaaban, said today the decision was made "in consultation with other Arab nations and the secretary general of the Arab League."

"We had their support," she said.

Bob, the truth is we cannot disarm Saddam with a UN resolution. A resolution was needed mainly for political purposes -- polls showed that Americans wanted the US to go through the UN and Bush can now say that he did that. If Saddam does everything possible to appear to comply it changes nothing for the US -- it just makes it stickier to justify the invasion. The US hopes he won't comply or that it can be made to look that way.
