Hi Joan,

Re dividend tax.

I wondered for some time if I owed UK stamp duty payable on buying of my USA shares as a UK citizen living in the UK. As I did some trading, I could have racked some some heavy expenses. After checking into it a little I found I did not owe stamp duty on my shares and stuff I purchase in the USA.

The rule is, its not who you are, where you live, or even if you are a UK citizen or not. Shares of any company run though UK based exchanges automatically deduct stamp duty. I suspect there are some taxes on dividends that do the same thing, i.e: the same rules apply.

Thats why I prefer USA shares and exchanges.

You might want to search here. I saw some stuff on double tax relief for the USA, but I am no expert on this stuff.

I apologize in advance for living in such a F**ked up country with all these stoopid taxes and charges.
