It isn't even the law-and-order issue that was dramatic, it was the realization that the huge machinery of millions of government officials down to the county level relies on taxes and fines and has gotten entirely comfortable with its burden on other Americans.

In a seminar I even had a cop tell me, "I pay taxes, too!". Which I had to correct by telling him he simply returns a portion, the entire paycheck is hard-earned dollars of citizens who expect results. Which in this case was to get his arse out of the office and onto the street.

And this is the kind of thinking that is missing from the millions of government officials. But the worst is at the top leadership, who think Americans work for them, rather than they being servants of the people. Consequently, they hide and shred information, make disturbances, arrests and other unsavory acts befitting autocracy.
