Bush is wasting everybodies time. What is the truth here. Blowing up saddam is going to change nothiing. If they took him out today at this (very) moment it would change nothing.

The resolution finds that Iraq is in material breach of resolution 687. It allows Iraq one more chance, and failing that chance will be in material breach of this resolution and 687.

Resolution 687 is the formal cease fire in consideration for the disarmament of Iraq and compliance with inspections. If Iraq is in breach of their agreement, we, nor anybody else is bound to abide by the cease fire, and therefore Resolution 678 is in full force - which authorizes "All necessary means".

No additional resolution is needed. We have agreed only to meet and discuss. We may go for an additional resolution; but will do so only if "all necessary means" is already a done deal.

It is a huge victory for GWB.

In the beginning of September, the UN position was that the US should address the "Palistinian problem" before any discussion of Iraq. GWB knocked them of of that soap box. Now he has a resolution which authorizes the use of force, if Saddam does not comply.
