1. I hadn't thought about government price controls, but that's a very real possibility, esepcially if general inflation takes off. It would be a terrible mistake and would lead immediately to shortages, but it's a crowd-pleaser to start with.

2. Isn't Ladyfern pooping out pretty fast? The NY state scene, where Talisman is buying in, seems thoroughly explored and fairly low yield. But sure, a 20 billion dollar pipeline or two up to Alaska or northwest Canada would bring in huge amounts of new gas.

3. The only time I owned a coalbed methane play I got back out fast when I saw how rapidly it was depeleting. But that might have been unusual. I just don't know that area.

4. It was sure interesting to read about that sand fracturing method in the Barnett shale, and there seemed to be a lot more gas to get out of that.

5. I guess a deep recession might put a lot of industrial uses of gas out of business.

6. weather? don't know.

The sure thing is that a lot of the country is hooked up to gas and it's a wonderful fuel. And drilling has dropped off. So I think I'll stay with it, though all the risks to the price that you point out are certainly there.
