I was agreeing with Jay's basic point that if economic growth is 2-3% then in the long run you shouldn't see more than that growth in the income from capital after inflation. But you need to add in inflation and then add in the current return to capital as you suggest too.

Foreign exchange trading is a zero sum game in the long-run. Stock market investing/trading is not. Even stock futures is not if you are on the long-side in the long-run.
