Yep, the "silicon valley generator" was a strong force. East coast semiconductor companies, to draw talent from the west coast (or retain their own employees), had to pay good competitive salaries. Maybe this has given me a an exaggerated view of base salaries in the USA to some degree.

Now we have the "China generator" though.

Also not listed on that site are Design Engineers. Especially Analog design engineers. They have a different formula to calculate base wage....

(1) Find out base salary of process engineer IV for your area.

(2) Add the first 6 digits of your telephone number to it. Taking the first digit to be a 1, 2, or 3 depending on senority and ability.

(3) Negotiate stock options and performance targets from there. -g-
