no, the GSM1x standard proposed calls out a fallback mode to GSM when no CDMA1x service is available, so EVERY GSM1x phone is a GSM phone.

EXACTLY like every VZ CDMA phone is an analog phone. And I think now every Sprint phone is an analog phone.
They all found out the old standard of analog had more coverage out there and will not drop this mode.
