FL asked me to comment on the FA Rubin piece and the reaction to it that I've heard. Basically, and predictably, the neocons have tended to like it a lot while the Arabists and others have disliked it. One point of criticism that has come from both some neocons (including Nadine!<g>) and some of their opponents, interestingly, has been the de-emphasis of Israel in the piece. That is, by focusing so much on Arab domestic politics, these critics argue, Rubin excessively downplays the role that U.S. support for Israel actually plays in their anti-Americanism. Some neocons argue that such a dynamic is indeed in play and reflects Arab anti-Semitism, while many others argue that it is indeed in play but reflects excessive American tilting to Israel under the Bush admin. Although the piece has drawn some passionate raves, a number of people on all sides seem to have felt that it oversimplified a subject that is actually a bit more complicated and subtle.

I gather that, among a lot of ME pieces in the next issue (including dueling views of what should be done vis-a-vis Iraq), there's going to be another article on the related topic of how much the hot-button issue of Palestine in the Arab world actually relates to the details of whatever happens on the ground between Palestinians and Israelis. It'll be by Michael Doran, who wrote that article on al Qaeda's ideology many here liked last year called "Somebody Else's Civil War"...

Since Bush really seems to know what he is doing, since America has been so badly hit by the tornadoes, and on you Vet's Day; I am finally going to really do my homework: write down and file for that patent against twisters that I was so lazy in doing in the last ten months, after some thirty years of observations and half a dozen years of studying.

Will it be efficient ? I can't be sure, but don't see why it wouldn't work!

Another good reason for concentrating on that arid legal language is that I've finished a passive (thus safe) early warning system against Predators planes that would cost less than 500$ a piece and that can be manufactured by the hundreds in any decent Palestinian metal workshop on any week.

But since no good guy is going to have any problem with a Predator in the next twenty years, why should I ?
For Saddam's or some Ayatollah's Dollars ?
No way!

So, if if post too often in the coming couple of weeks, please Fault Line, please ban me!

Unless a war starts. Then I won't be able to concentrate...
