Duke-- wmt is not compusa. Look for more of the likes of e-mach 2nds & remafg stuff..

Well, HPQ don't make their own consumer PCs either.

And the HPQ warranty isn't worth much on machines purchased through WMT. I was there when we did the first deals with them and my understanding is that not much has changed. They squeeze so hard on price that we had to limit it to 30 days of phone support and 90 days of send-in repair service. We had to put together different models with cheaper components and an entire different warranty structure to support WMT's price demands. Many in the organization (including me) felt that we were completely sacrificing brand reputation in order to ship more volume.

I think WMT can continue to serve their customers with the same (lousy) level of product quality without involving HPQ or anything else. And I'm not convinced that it is necessarily bad for HPQ in the longer term.

Walmart has a Microtel PC's for sale on its direct site starting at $228 without monitor. They have a VIA 800 Mhz processor, 10 GB hardrive at 5200 RPM, 128 Megs of SDRAM, 52X CD ROM, integrated 10/100 Lan and Lycoris(Linux based) OS. Has a lot of Linux based software for word processing, digital cameras, etc. They also have some systems using Duron and Celeron processors.
