Bill:

IMO AMZN has benefited greatly from the savings benefits to consumers when the they purchase over the net and don't pay any sales tax (lets not get into the discussion they should be declaring and paying a corresponding use tax).

When this goes away all of a sudden AMZN loses an advantage against local competitors. This will hit the stock as it will hinder sales growth.

As for going out of business, no although with its debt it could become bankrupt where the old shareholders lose out and the bond holders become new owners (this scenario if it plays out is not in the next year).

Remember the net really expanded during the boom and bubble when states were flush with cash. now with many deficits watch the local outcry to help cut this "loophole" shore up the state deficits. Even with Republican control of the 3 branches Bush is practical and may do this.

Just something to watch for.
