The exact same thing happened to my sister-in-law over the summer. Out of the blue people from my address book (most of whom she didn't even know)and a few from her own were forwarded an email that she had received a year prior - this message had long been deleted from her folder. It ended up that it was a virus and she apparently had it removed except that a weird thing happened to her once again just recently that sounds so similar:
