at this time i don't suspect a problem in the norton updates. but then again, i don't know for sure. i'm still looking into it, and will let ya know if i discover the culprit

i think the problem i've experienced is that SpyBot is zipping files and placing them in a recovery folder. that's where i think the problem lies. there are just a bunch of recent .zip files in there, and when i bypassed them with my virus scanner, the critical error disappeared.

i don't need a bunch of crap in a recovery folder. maybe i'll look at SpyBot settings, or at the very least, delete all these .zip files.

as for what damaged them, i have no idea
